My name is Yash Kalkal. I live in Charkhi Dadri, Haryana. Coming from a state like Haryana, it felt as if there was always someone from an army background in the neighborhood. Therefore, it was always considered such a prestigious career that even my family wanted me to pursue it. Recently, when my grandmother died, she told me,” It’s sad that I won’t be able to see you become an army officer but I am sure one day you will.”
Honestly, I wasn’t someone who dreamt of joining the army. I was good at studies but I didn’t know which path to venture in.
Surprisingly when I was in 10th standard, I watched a show named “Revealed: National Defence Academy” and that’s when it became my passion. Fueled up from watching that show, I finally decided to prepare for the NDA exam which I cracked with excellent grades.
I was educated at Mother India Sr Sec School, Maraut, Jhajjar where I completed my 12th with excellent grades as well.
After I cleared my NDA exam, I spoke to a cousin of mine for further preparation. Ashish, my brother told me about this institution. So, I joined the Georgian Academy just after my written exam. I found everything in this Academy that I need to learn. Coming from a background which was not an urban space, I was never confident about my verbal communication skills in English. Georgian Academy provided me a platform to enhance my communication skills and helped in my personality development. Because of the regular class group discussions, my knowledge of vocabulary and sentence formation enhanced, making me an effective speaker. It taught me how to deliver my opinion effectively and efficiently. All the mentors at the Academy, polished my personality and helped me boost my confidence. I came to know about the inside and outside of SSB interview and the requirements of armed forces. Regular Psych classes with Deepak sir brought clarity of thoughts in my mind. The best thing was the environment of the Academy. Everyone here was dedicated towards their aim and were very cooperative in nature. The knowledge of Mr. Kunwar Pratap Sir helped me build up my confidence and structuring my thoughts.
When I finally cleared the SSB interview, I was really happy. Before even venturing into this profession, I am now aware that discipline is the most important virtue in a human being. I would suggest people to take up this career path because it doesn’t discriminate between people who aren’t from a well- off family and people from a stronger background. There is no rich and poor in Army and the scope for learning is even more than any other university. I always had an interest in Ethical hacking and I have learnt it at an intermediate level but I am looking forward to go into the depths of it when I will be joining the Indian army.
Last but not the least, I think what I learnt at the Georgians Academy has not only helped me clear my interview but has made me who I am today. I will remember what I learnt here my whole life. Thank you.
